My weight-loss recipe for breakfast

My weight-loss recipe for breakfast
Egg & Lettuce Salad + Green Tea

For a long time I had been worried about our weight gain. Since the time we had moved to our new flat in Central Delhi, our routine for morning and evening walks was disturbed and we were not able to restart them in earnest.

Initially we were quite happy at the thought of having a flat within a reasonable distance from Talkatora Garden but unfortunately, every time we started our morning walks, the routine just fizzled out due some reason or the other, and the reasons, I must admit, include our laziness.

…and the unwanted layers of flab started appearing one after another. We were going from dreaming of fab-abs to getting flab-abs!

“Look, how much weight you guys have gained”, pointed out our son many times while chatting from London on Skype, adding laughingly, “You guys are becoming roly-poly”.

“Both of you must stick to your walking routine,” he would advise.

“Yes, we will,” said Arvind and we would resolve and start our walks only to get discontinued again and allowing calories to transform into their favourite form – FAT.

We also tried to curtail intake of our calorie count and would stick more or less to the controlled diet plan. However, tempting meals and snacks served during bloggers’ meets used to make this diet plan topsy-turvy.

Our sedentary work style and no regular walks regime continued to increase its presence on the most gullible part of our body – belly and other areas too.

With a renewed determination, our walks and our low calorie diet plan have started again. And recently, I had come across and read an interesting article about six food items that help lose weight.

“Why not have a simple recipe including these ingredients? It will perhaps help us shed some weight”, I thought.

So I prepared this egg lettuce salad for breakfast and served with green tea.

“This is delicious and filling too”, Arvind said.

“And contains no fat,” I added, and then went on, “This salad will help us increase our body metabolism and we will burn more calories.”

Then I showed him that informative article about these six items which I had included in the recipe.

Let me list out these properties of these ingredients here too:

Lettuce – Lettuce is low in calories and whatever amount one eats no weight is gained. A lettuce salad is fibrous, and rich in folate, beta-carotene, Vitamin C, and potassium.

Egg White – Egg white is high protein food, contains no fat and increases body metabolism rate. The high protein content allows the body to burn fat.

Black Pepper – Besides increasing the body’s metabolic rate, it has antioxidant properties too. By enhancing digestion and increasing metabolism, black pepper makes sure that body weight does not increase.

Red Chilly – A research study by Oxford Brookes University says that chilly powder increases levels of diet induced thermogenesis. The best part is that red chilly targets fat instead of carbohydrates to generate heat.

Cinnamon – Cinnamon initiates the activity of insulin and increases the metabolism of glucose. We all know high blood sugar levels almost always result in increased storage of the fat by the body. It is obvious then that cinnamon by its action on insulin and glucose metabolism not only keeps body weight in check but also has cholesterol lowering effects.

Green Tea – Green tea contains a compound catechin that helps boost the ability to burn fat and is high in antioxidants. Somebody once remarked that drinking a couple of cups of green tea every day for three months helps you lose more body fat than if you have regular tea.

Based on the knowledge thus gained, I decided to prepare my breakfast of that has all these ingredients and named it Egg lettuce Salad + Green Tea.
