Whisky apps on Android

May 14, 2014

In today’s world of advanced technology, internet, and smart phones have become very powerful tools. Hats off to the developers too who have been developing varied applications for the smart phones and making access to the information even easier at times.

A search on the Google Playstore for apps related to whisky showed me hundreds of apps to choose from. Some free, some perhaps more advanced and moderately priced.

‘What does one use these apps for?’ I thought, ‘Let me try one of these apps.’

So I downloaded one app ‘Whisky App’ and explored it. Its description said one can browse all whiskies, write your tasting, nosing and finish notes, read others’ notes, keep and share a wish list, rate whiskies, get advice, order whiskies (this I did not find in this free app that I had downloaded or may be it is location-based).

Obviously, my first search was Black Dog. It showed me all the variants. Black Dog 18 Year Old Scotch Whisky, Black Dog 12 Year Old Scotch Whisky, Black Dog Centenary Scotch Whisky, Black Dog Quintessence 21 Years old Scotch Whisky.

I could search by the name of the bottler, name of the country, and/or vintage.

On choosing a specific variant it gives the stats including name, alcohol, cask, colour, country, and year about the chosen variant. One can add his notes for a whisky too.

Next I tried and added Black Dog 12 Year Old Scotch Whisky and Black Dog Quintessence 21 Years old Scotch Whisky to my wish list successfully and also shared the list.

The best part of the application is that you can add a whisky which is not in their database and have a choice to make it public or not by opting for suitable settings.

Black Dog Triple Gold Reserve Whisky, the latest and the only blended Scotch that is produced involving a triple maturation process was not in the apps database. I got a chance to add it.
